Inspiration (n.) - "the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions" (source: Merriam Webster).

It's one of those amazing feelings that envelop us with ideas and breathe life into our actions. Not many of us have jobs that require us to be inspired every day on the clock. Yet we all need a daily healthy scoop of inspiration regardless of what our passions, hobbies or interests are. Inspiration is good for our well-being, it can send us to a new path, help us see things from a new perspective and often surprise us - it's not just for work. The thing about inspiration is that we can't control it, but it doesn't mean we can't invite it.

Let your mind swim free from all the clutter of thoughts. The good news is that there are so many ways you could do it and they'll all work if done right. Now the-not-so-good news - it's not as easy as it might seem. If your mind has been focused on multiple tasks at once, releasing the tension will take longer and require full commitment. Close your eyes, switch off the atmospheric distractions, but keep the music on if it helps you keep the thoughts away. Then just feel the air coming in and breathe it out. Don't concentrate on anything and try to stay free of any thinking. In addition you could add a scent that usually helps you relax or combine it with a visualization of a place you feel the best at - a beach, a mountain, a field - it could be anything! Feel the tension leaving your body and your muscles ease. If you practice it a few times, eventually your body will adapt to it and show you the most effective way for you. Don't get quickly discouraged if you don't get immediate results - patience exists for a reason.

You would be surprised at the change you see in yourself and your thinking once you've covered the basics - healthy sleeping and eating. Neglecting lunchtime and carrying on with tasks and chores will not only make you feel physically tired, but drain your mental energy as well. I know it sounds pretty simple, but that's why it's so important. Your body and mind feeds off what you give it. Your thought process will flow easier and ideas will start coming to you.

Following the same routine every day can put a hold on your inspiration flow, especially at times when you are swamped with work and other problems. Sometimes there is no time for anything, but also sometimes it's good for us to make time. If going to the coffee shop on Sundays helps you restore your energy - that's great, but why don't you choose a different one or have a stroll down the park? The trees look so pretty at this time of the year. Trying a new thing will offer you a new experiences and ultimately new ideas will present themselves to you - especially when your mind is relaxed and you're not consciously looking for them! I've spent so many moments in fretting and anxious anticipation that drove me crazy rather than just letting go and allowing myself to become naturally inspired by doing something new like discarding my boring plans and spontaneously saying yes to going out on a Monday evening.

Activities like running, swimming, driving and even cooking can help you get into a rhythmic flow that simultaneously clears the mind. They won't occupy your thoughts and at the same time they can restore your energy, so inspiration would find you without the obsessive need to actively look for it.

I feel like positivity is one of those minefield words that are either automatically liked by some people or ultimately hated by others. I know, the topic can get heated, but the argument of who's right and who's wrong aside, having a calm outlook on life and focusing on the good rather than the bad is only going to help. I've been a Little Miss Negative (I liked to call it 'very realistic') for years and it worsened every challenging situation or a problem in my life instead of helping me handle it better. If you tell yourself that great ideas can't come to you, you make it difficult for yourself to accept them as such. You spend hours outperforming yourself at your job and then you feel defeated that you can't come up with a great photo idea, a DIY project, short story or a new recipe? Take a deep breath and choose the positive stance - you are coming up with it.

There are words better said by others, so here is a small collection of inspirational quotes to help you get there.

''Change your thoughts and you change your world.'' - Norman Peale

''Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds that you plant." - Robert Stevenson

"The things that we love tell us who we are." - Thomas Aquinas

"The only journey is the one within." - Rainer Rilke

"Each day provides its own gifts." - Marcus Aurelius
