Feeling down while being stuck at work can make you more miserable as you don't have the luxury to cheer yourself up at your own leisure. We all have been there, but now it's time to do something about it, get creative and use whatever we can to get rid of the bad moods.

Busy at lunch? Then why not try to take at least five minutes for yourself? It's worth it. Your job won't fall apart if you use five minutes to go outside, breathe and close your eyes. The fresh air and the change of scenery will help you shift perspectives and hopefully brighten up the rest of your day. If you find a little bit more time, go on a short walk. It could be the branches of a tree, rocking gently that you see, the blue of the sky or feeling the breeze, brushing your skin.

Reaching out to friends and family can improve your well-being and pull you out from the gloom of negative moods. Whether you get an opportunity to send a brief text, give someone you love a surprise call or go straight into arranging an evening of wine and ice-cream - the choice is yours! It will give you something to look forward to. A funny reply from a friend can and make you laugh and bring your mojo back. And hearing the voice of a favorite person can help you forget about the bad day for a moment and remind you to focus on the bigger picture.

You can pair the negative feeling you experience with a positive stimulus. For example, grab some of the food that brings a smile to your face. You might not feel like doing anything when you're in a bad mood, but having a positive experience can help you get there quicker. Find a picture from your last holiday or a quote from a book you love.

Even though studies show that misery loves company - people are more likely to listen to music in congruence with their mood, it won't make you feel any better. Scientific research reported that listening to sad music in a depressing mood can, in fact, increase depression. In this case, it's better to opt for a more rhythmic music and steer away from teary lyrics. So, go on, put your headphones on, turn the volume up and let the happy beats do their work. When I fall in one of those moods, I like to play some Hawaiian tunes and daydream of the beach.

If nothing helps - hey, I'm sorry (!), but don't give up. Don't let your mood take control over you and suck the joy out of your Monday. You can always try tomorrow, but for today all you can do is curl up on the bed with a bad movie or a good book. Or you can always turn up the volume, throw those headphones away, let your hair loose and dance the dark and stormy mood away!
